Our clinic is situated in a quiet lane in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. There is plenty of parking at the front of the building.
You can walk your dog, either along the lane or you can have a lovely walk across the fields and woods opposite if it is dry (your dog will need to be clean and dry for the x-rays).
The Vet will greet you in the car park and take your paperwork for checking. We will call you in when we are ready for you and the Vet will then complete a health check for your dog.
You will be able to stay with your dog until he/she is sedated but, for health and safety reasons, we are not able to allow you into the x-ray area.
Once the radiographs have been taken, your dog will be given an injection to reverse the main part of the sedation. As soon as your dog is awake, we will call you in to be with your dog and to view the x-rays.
We submit the x-rays to the BVA online and you will have the results in about 10 days and sometimes even sooner.
FAQ’s:
Why do we need to use sedation?
The BVA/KC Hip Scoring Scheme requires specific and carefully positioned X-rays, only achievable if the patient is relaxed enough to allow this. Manual restraint (by us or you) is not allowed under current H&S Regulations.
What is in the injection?
A combination of two drugs used routinely for short procedures in Veterinary Practices across the world. One drug provides physical relaxation and is reversible. The other reduces anxiety and is not reversed.
Is this an anaesthetic?
No - sedation is NOT the same as General Anaesthetic. Sedation is enough to provide good relaxation and reduce anxiety, allowing us to position your dog optimally with minimal fuss for your dog.
With this sedation, your dog will appear to be sound asleep, usually after 5-10 minutes after the injection.
After the reversal injection is administered, your dog will be on its feet after approximately 8-12 minutes.
As one of the drugs (for anxiety) is not reversible, your dog may be quieter/chilled for a few hours afterwards.
